35 new roads urged in national capital region
June 5th, 2010 - 3:59 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 5 (IANS) Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda has urged the central government to construct 35 new roads in rural areas of Haryana that fall in the National Capital Region (NCR), an official said here Saturday.
According to a Haryana government spokesperson, Hooda, an MP from Rohtak in Haryana, met Union Rural Development Minister C.P. Joshi in New Delhi Friday and put forward the proposal for the roads, with a total distance of nearly 295 km, under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sarak Yojana (Prime Minister’s Rural Roads Scheme).
Hooda is the son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
“During the meeting, Hooda apprised the minister about the fast increasing traffic in the NCR as compared to other regions of the country. He proposed to construct new rural roads in Rohtak, Jhajjar and Kosli that fall in the NCR,” the spokesperson said.
“Construction materials for development work taking place in the national capital is carried through the NCR resulting in heavy traffic on the roads. Therefore, we need good roads. Socio-economic development of a village cannot be imagined without a network of better roads,” he said.
An official statement quoted Hooda as saying: “The national highways in the NCR have been strengthened during the last five years. In this scenario, roads in the rural areas should also be constructed on priority basis to ensure all round development of the area.”
