July 2, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): One of the largest automobile companies, Toyota has decided to recall 270,000 vehicles from across the world fearing faulty engines. According to the company, it will include seven luxury Lexus models and the trendy Toyota Crown. Some of the Lexus models will be recalled from UK.

This recall is taking its toll on the car own owners not only in UK but also across the world. Speaking on this latest recall, a spokesperson of Lexus, said, “We at Lexus will take every possible step to minimize the inconvenience of our customers. We will decide on the actions to be taken and will let our customers know immediately.”

This latest quality issue has led to the recall of over 8m vehicles. Earlier this year, the cars were facing problems with sticking accelerator pedals. Due to its slow response on account of an accelerator fault, the company was fined with $16m in the US. There are over 200 lawsuits against the company for the accelerator accidents.

According to a company spokeswoman, the car can also stop while being driven due to a problem with the valve spring in their engines.

Eight top line models including some hybrids have got these defective 3.5-litre V6 and 4.6-litre V8 engines. The models are LS460, LS600h, LS600hL, IS350, GS450h, GS460, GS350 and the Crown sedan.

However, as per the spokesperson, no accidents have been reported yet. About 3,200 Lexus vehicles were involved in the UK. The defective car owners can contact their local dealer with their queries.

But the reports say that the ‘sticky pedal’ defect is responsible for at least 32 deaths.

On May 10, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration declared starting an investigation to find out if the 2005 steering-rod defect was informed to the agency within five days of learning about it, as per the law.
