200 low floor DTC buses launched
May 2nd, 2010 - 11:35 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 2 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Sunday evening flagged off 200 new low-floor buses of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) here.
The function was held at the India Gate lawns.
The DTC is also intending to provide free newspapers and magazines to the commuters in these point-to-point buses, a Delhi government press release said.
Dikshit described this as an important milestone in enhancing passenger comfort as this will discourage people to use their personal vehicles for commuting to work.
The newly inducted buses are both air-conditioned (AC) and non-air-conditioned. With this the DTC fleet strength has gone up to 4,931.
The fare structure is Rs.20.00 per trip in non-AC and Rs.30 per trip in AC buses.
“The DTC will not hesitate in introducing more buses in this service once it gets an encouraging response,” the press release said.
The chartered bus service will run on 72 routes in almost all major localities of the city.
The buses on the express routes will ply from Monday to Friday.
For the convenience of regular passengers monthly passes will be offered at the rate of Rs.900 for Non-AC buses and Rs.1,100 for AC ones.
The routes will cover government office complexes and commercial hubs including CGO Complex, Central Secretrait., ITO, AIIMS, ISBT, Connaught Place, and Nehru Place and will start from Dwarka, Vikas Puri, Rohini, Shalimar Bagh, R.K. Puram, Vasant Vihar, Hauz Khas, Mehrauli, Nand Nagri, Sarita Vihar, Mayur Vihar, Vivek Vihar and Anand Vihar.
The service will also cover Gurgaon, Faridabad and Noida.
“Passes will not be issued for the buses covering NCR (national capital region) towns and fare will be applicable as per interstate service,” Transport Minister Arvinder Singh said.
