12 more trains for Delhi Metro before Games
July 27th, 2010 - 7:26 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 27 (IANS) The Delhi Metro will add 12 new trains on its Dwarka-Noida and Yamuna Bank-Anand Vihar line before the Commonwealth Games in October with over two lakh more people expected to commute on these routes, an official said Tuesday.
“The commissioning of the new trains will help in reducing the problem of overcrowding on these corridors as the number of trains available on the service will increase to 64,” said a spokesperson of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
So far, 52 trains make about 566 trips a day on the two routes, he said, adding that the number of trips will be 725 every day with the commissioning of the new trains.
“The 12 more trains will be pressed into service on the two corridors within the next two months. As per the plan, two new trains will be introduced every week from now on,” the spokesperson said.
Delhi Metro carries about 675,000 people on a daily basis on the routes.
The 47-km Dwarka Sector 9-Noida city centre metro corridor (line 3), also known as blue line, is the longest corridor of the Delhi Metro network.
The Yamuna Bank-Anand Vihar corridor (line 4) is 6.25 km long and connects with line 3 at Yamuna Bank.
Meanwhile, Delhi Metro’s first six-coach train is ready for commissioning on Line 1 (Dilshad Garden-Rithala), the spokesperson added. At present, Delhi Metro trains have four coaches.
“After gaining sufficient experience, this six-coach train will be shifted to line 3. Additional six-coach trains will be inducted on line 3 from January 2011,” he said.
