batmanDallas, Mar 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) No, it wasn’t a “Batman” comic book, but it was his debut in print. In 1939, Detective Comics distributed their “Detective Comic No 27″ never dreaming that a copy of it would one day sell for over a million dollars, thus setting the record for the price paid for a comic book. The sell broke the record made just three days before by a 1938 rare copy of Action Comics No 1 featuring Superman. This comic was sold between a a private buyer and a private seller, conducted by a New York City auction site ComicConnect.com.

The rare comic book was sold in an auction in Dallas, TX at Heritage Auction Galleries. The total price was $1,075,500 and that included the buyer’s premium. The buyer and consigner both wished to remain anonymous.

The director of operations of Heritage Auction Gallery’s comic division said, “It pretty much blew away all of our expectations and now it’s the highest price ever raised for a comic book. We can really say that Batman has nosed out Superman, at least for now”

The Batman debut comic book was bought by the consigner back in the late 60’s and had only paid a hundred dollars for it. It’s cover is one of the more famous Batman covers, featuring Batman swinging out on a rope over the city’s rooftops.
