amazon kindle international Beacon Hill, Oct 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Book-lovers in India can rejoice and book-lovers who love technology as well are already over the moon, as Amazon’s Kindle is going to be launched in India soon. The international edition is priced at $279 (Rs. 13,000).

“Whether you’re in Paris, Mumbai or Sao Paulo, you can think of a book and be reading it in less than 60 seconds,” said in a statement on its website.

The new Kindle with global wireless, will deliver books, newspaper subscriptions and magazines to e-readers in over 100 countries.

According to, Kindle, which uses the same wireless technology as cell phones so users will never have to seek out Wi-Fi sites, is “as thin as a magazine and weighs less than a paperback — but can hold 1,500 books.”

The Kindle store boasts of more than 350,000 books along with newspapers and magazines too. Technologically it has also improved as it has a long battery life that lasts up to 2 weeks plus, we can read easily in bright sunlight too, without feeling any glare from the screen.

According to Amazon, New releases and bestsellers cost about $11.99 (Rs. 559) but Amazon boasts thousands of best-selling titles that sell for about $5.99 U.S (Rs. 279)

However, Kindle is not going to be launched in Canada right away, because of some issues with digital publishing rights and electronic distribution negotiations. Amazon says that they are working on them, so that Canada also becomes one of the Kindle countries.

“The book publishing industry in Canada is not up to speed in terms of what is available in the number of titles (online),” Margaret Antkowski said in February. “Secondly, because it has WiFi capabilities, there has to be an agreement with the providers — the Bells of the world, the Rogers of the world. That’s one of the things that’s standing in the way, and they’re working on that.”
