Mar 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the new trend of vampire stories now dominating the box office, it comes as no surprise that the book world is getting in on the action as well. What did come as a surprise, perhaps, is the fact that someone (that someone being Writer Seth Grahame-Smith) used one of the icons of our country’s history to bring his story to life. Although one reporter stated that Lincoln was probably turning over in his grave, it is evident that he cannot be, otherwise it would be he who was immortal.
The benefits which Grahame-Smith gained for the writing of this book were said to be in the six figures. It is a “mash-up” of history and fantasy that is reported to “lack richness and subtlety, but not color.” In the book, Grahame-Smith uses the whole vampire scene as a direct metaphor for slavery. The trailer for the book can be seen below.
According to the book, Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States, discovers, while he is still a boy, that his mother and grandfather were killed by vampires. He then decides to become a vampire hunter. He has a side-kick of course, “Henry” and he becomes president while fighting the slave traders, who are actually vampires. Apparently the story is brought to light after a diary of Lincoln’s is discovered, which tells about all of his vampire hunting experiences.
This book is not the first of it’s kind to come from the mind of Grahame-Smith. His first so-called “mash-up” storyline was a hit. “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” sold 2 million copies and is currently being transformed into a movie in which Natalie Portman will star.
