July 14, 2008 by Bupha Ravirot The World Bank ranked Thailand as the 15th out of 178 countries around the world as the most favorable place for business and investment of the year 2008 by World Bank's world trade indicator which has been launched recently and covering global trade : according to Gianni Zanini, a leading economist of the World Bank. Regarding the information obtained from the indicator, Thailand comes at the 15 th out of 178 countries throughout the world for conducting business and investment but Thailand has its weak points such as: there are too many rules and regulations, poor infrastructure and lack of skilled personnel especially in others provinces outside Bangkok where most of the people are not enough educated. In 2007, Thailand's trade and service growth earned 7.8 per cent and ranked at 69th out of 160 countries. said Mr. Zanini. However, Due to the appreciation of the Thai currency, the Baht, between 2006-2007 Thailand's market share in the global trading fell down to 1.5 per cent but if looking at its exports, especially electronics products is still spectacular as Thailand could always penetrate new markets including those in the Middle East and Russia. According to Mr. Zanini, Countries which practiced fewer trade protectionisms and imposed low tariffs enjoyed better trade earnings.
