Road Show to Promote India-Thai Economic Cooperation |

July 05, 2007 By Amrit Pal Mr. Kongsiri, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is on an official visit to India, led a delegation of Thai investors to visit the Mahindra World City Special Economic Zone in Chennai on 30 June 2007.
The Mahindra World City SEZ has been established by the Indian government to promote investment in the fields of information technology, fashion and automobile parts. The investors in the said area would enjoy special preferences such as tax holiday for 15 years, fee exemption and construction cost discount. The visiting Thai investors expressed their interest and inquired related detailed information with the concerned Indian authorities.
After that, Deputy Foreign Minister Sawanit and the accompanying party visited the Srinivasa Fashion PVT Export Internatrional and exchanged views with its executives. The Srinivasa Fashion PVT Export International produces male and female brand-name clothing to export to countries in Europe, the US and Canada. Currently the factory imports the raw materials from China and Taiwan and is planning to import polyester from Thailand in the future.
The Thai Deputy Foreign Minister’s visit to the Mahindra World City SEZ was a part of Road Show to Promote Economic Cooperation for future Thailand-India Free Trade Area initiated by the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi together with the Royal Thai Consulates General in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata in order to promote the trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.
