Recently there was a news in Indian media related to an NRI on how he used Right to information or RTI to get his Income Tax refund which was pending for five years in a week's time. Tushar Dalvi, an NRI, who settled in Santa Cruz a few years ago, has a non-resident ordinary account from which the bank was deducting tax at source (TDS) on the interest accumulated on his deposits.

India & Thailand Top corruption charts! Print E-mail

Thailand figures second and India fifth among 13 countries in a list measuring corruption levels while doing business in Asia according to a survey published recently.The survey was conducted by Political and Economic Risk Consultancy Ltd. The poll was reportedly done through interviews with more than 1,500 businessmen in 126 countries on their perceptions of corruption in Asian countries.

IOB retrieves Bangkok branch of Bharat Overseas Bank Print E-mail
IOB Coimbatore, March. 11 (PTI): The Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has retrieved the Bharat Overseas Bank in Thai capital Bangkok and it would function as IOB from Mar 31, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said today.
Announcing this at a function to distribute priority credit loans, organised by IOB here, Chidambaram said that since the Thailand Government revoked the regulation (which banned the functioning of any Government owned financial Institutions in that nation), the bank would be returned to IOB again.

A Magsaysay Award winner for public service, Her Royal Highness was keen to study the Amul model of Co-operative Dairying which had transformed the lives of millions of people all over the country.

Reports of possible bomb attacks in Bangkok Print E-mail

AUSTRALIANS in Thailand have been warned to be on extra alert today after reports of possible bomb attacks on crowded places in Bangkok, such as department stores or public transport.

"We advise you to exercise a high degree of caution because of the high threat of terrorist attack," the Australian embassy said in a travel advisory on its website.

Jet Airways announces daily nonstop flights between India and Thailand effective January 23, 2007 Print E-mail

 Jet Airways, India’s premier airline, is pleased to announce the launch of direct daily flights from Delhi and Kolkata to Bangkok, the 50th destination on the airline’s network, effective January 23, 2007. Consequent to the induction into its fleet of a brand new Boeing 737-800 aircraft with winglets, Jet Airways, which has been designated by the Government of India to Jet Airwaysoperate air services on the India-Thailand route, will introduce two daily direct flights effective January 23, 2007 to Asia’s favourite destination, Bangkok. Jet Airways will operate these flights with a brand new Boeing 737-800 aircraft with winglets, which will be inducted into the airline fleet next month, taking the fleet size to 59. This is the first time that the Airline will operate inaugural flights between two metro cities in India and an international destination on the same day.

LTTE guy arrested in Bangkok Print E-mail

LTTE LogoTop LTTE terrorist Kumaran Padmanathan has been arrested in Bangkok. He was suspected to be involved in a LTTE gun-running network based in Thailand. However, the Sri Lankan government is awaiting official confirmation of the “arrest”.

Padmanathan has been declared one of the most wanted terrorists by Interpol as he is suspected to be a key person in LTTE's global network for procuring weapons and other equipment.

He has also been suspected as the main person responsible for planning and executing the assassination of  Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India.
