IIFA AwardsDirected by Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra, ‘Rang De Basanti’ starring Aamir Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Alice Patton, Madhavan and Kiron Kher turned out to be the audiences’ and jury’s favorite film making it the clear winner at the 8th Annual IDEA IIFA Awards at Yorkshire. After a fun-filled and exciting weekend, curtains came down on the spectacular IDEA IIFA Weekend in Yorkshire,today with the grand finale- the Eighth IDEA IIFA Awards 2007 held at The Hallam fm, Arena, Sheffield.

Hrithik Roshan added another feather to his cap with the title of the best actor while Rani Mukherjee was awarded the Best Actress for the film ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Raj Kumar Hirani sure to become the most sought after director in Indian Film industry thanks to his magnificent win as the best director at the IDEA IIFA Awards for the film ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’.

Sunidhi Chauhan won the best female playback singer .The music category was  dominated by the Fanaa team, as Prasoon Joshi bagged the award for best lyrics and Shaan was rewarded for the Best Male singer 2006 for his rendition ‘Chand Sifarsh’.

 

Amongst cheers and ‘thank you speeches’, the Grand Finale- IDEA IIFA Awards 2007 also saw dazzling performances from leading stars of Indian cinema, the likes of which have never been seen before. Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu set the stage ablaze with performances.

The night also saw electrifying dance rhythms by Govinda, Aftab Shivdasani, Emraan Hashmi and Raima Sen choreographed to immaculate perfection by Shaimak Davar. To add more zing to the already intoxicating night, Boman Irani and Anupam Kher came together to add double dose of fun. Boman Irani kept the audience in splits with his witticisms as the host for the evening. Lara Dutta adding the oomph quotient supported him through the ceremony. Shilpa Shetty enthralled the UK audience, who has already showered her with much adulation in the recent past; by performing live to all the top songs of the year. She left the audience awe – struck and begging for more.

The stars practiced day in and day out to impress scores of fans present at the venue and the millions who will be watching them on television from the comfort of their living rooms soon.

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) celebrates Indian Cinema across the globe and this year, Yorkshire was IIFA’s destination. Being the original Indian cinema awards ceremony to be held in foreign locales, IIFA has always been associated with the best in terms of performances, awards and the celebration of the art and science of film – making.

With the largest traveling contingent of over 450 people from the Indian film industry,IIFA has established its footprints everywhere- be it Europe, South East Asia, Africa,The Middle East. The contingent comprises personalities from India across film stars,sports personalities, government leaders and trade and industry representatives- in essence- ‘the best of India’.
