Guinness World Records has just certified Thailand as the largest  exporter of rice in the world! after nomination by the environmental protector "Greenpeace".

According to Greenpeace "Thai rice is well-known for its high quality, soft texture, unique fragrance and good taste, and is in demand around the world."

Thailand being certified by The Guinness record is an important recognition and this is a great support for Thailand to move forward and keep up the quality of Thai rice. Greenpeace also mentioned that Thailand should remain free from the clutches of multinational agro-companies that are trying to introduce genetically engineered rice to gain control of Thai rice.

However, Thai Government has banned multinational agro-companies from experimenting with GE rice as it is risky to our rice farming tradition, the livelihood of our farmers and most importantly will impact health and environment,  which really impressed the Greenpeace.

Greenpeace is non-governmental campaign aimed to protect Thailand's beloved rice varieties from genetic contamination and to uphold food sovereignty.

The Guinness World Record certificate and new campaign called "We love Thai rice " will be hold January, 22 at The Central World Plaza. It is considered to be another important way to prevent interference of the GE rice, and to keep the right of people to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, and their right to define their own food and agriculture systems.
