"I just want to be a good person in my life" says wonderkid Ajay!

Thaindian.com had the privilege to connect to Ajay Puri who has been an achiever at a very young age and has made the entire thai-indian community proud. In our first article of “Distinguished Indians in Thailand” Series we present the excerpt of his e-mail Interview with us.

TI - First of all please accept heartiest congratulations from the thaindian.com and its members for all yourhttp://www.microsoftkid.com/images/Ajay%20Puri%20with%20Amitabh%20Bachchan-3.jpg achievements. We are proud of you – to say the least. Please tell us something about yourself.

Ajay - Thank you so much . I am very happy to know you and the website thaindian.com. Well I am a very ordinary boy and trying to learn things from my elders.  I am very much interested in animation these days and taking a course in Digital School of Animation in Bangkok.  I am studying in The Regent International School.  I am also very much interested in movies and music. I guess I am influenced by my dad a lot as he is a movie lover. He sometimes gets up early morning at 4 am just to see a movie. I love my mom a lot and specially like her Thai, Italian and Mexican food.  I am amazed by brother who is a very good dancer and overall I love my grandparents who are in India .

TI -  Your homepage www.microsoftkid.com says that you are now MOUS certified? What does this mean? What other certifications do you already have?

Ajay - MOUS means Microsoft Office User Specialist (Currently it is known as MOS which means Microsoft Office Specialist). I have passed my Master Level and I am the youngest person to pass this exam. The certification means that one is well versed in Office Applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, FrontPage and Outlook.  More than being certified I enjoyed my learning experience.  I am working towards other certification like in animations and Microsoft System Engineer but I have a long way to go. I would suggest all the people to take up this exam because more than certification it teaches you quite a lot of things which you will require while working.

Ajay with Bill Gates and his proud Dad Mr. Ravi PuriTI- How do you feel when people say you are a whiz kid and treat you in a special manner?

Ajay -I do feel happy about it but at the same it puts extra responsibility on my shoulders to carry those expectations.  I just want to enjoy doing what I like to do. After you have reached certain level it is very difficult to maintain that. You have to put in lot of efforts and time in it especially in a field like IT where things are changing so rapidly.

TI- Apart from computers / software, what are your subjects of interest (academically speaking) and other interest areas / hobbies?

Ajay - I am very much interested in subjects such as science.  I am very much interested in Space Technology. I was very much impressed by movie Apollo 13. It shows how 3 people survived in space after their rocket had problem. My other interest are movies, music , cricket , table tennis , football and helping others.

TI -  In your family who loves you the most? Who do you think has played the most important role in shaping your personality as we see Ajay today?

Ajay - I feel that my Baba, Dadi and my mummy loves me the most.  My papa does love me a lot but he does not show it. He always keeps me on my toes to work hard all the time.

TI - On an average how many hours do you spend working on computer?

Ajay - Well I guess Its only about 4-5 hours a week mainly on Saturdays and Sundays. I am concentrating more on my school studies right now.  I have recently moved to Regent International School and have made new friends there. I am learning a lot there. Very soon I will be assisting school in their IT work also which will be a very good learning experience.

TI - How many hours do you spend in studying and playing? What outdoor games do you play? Do you think it is important to play outdoor games?

Ajay -I go to school from 7 am to 4 pm. After that it is my play time for 2 hours with my uncles and friends in the building. After that I sit down to study. I play table tennis, foot ball and my favorite cricket.  Yes it is very important to play outdoor games as it keeps you fit. I really need to work more on outdoor games as I guess I am under weight.

TI- Recently when Mr. N R Narayanmurthy was here in Bangkok, did you meet him? What did he say?

Ajay - Yes I did meet Narayan Murthy uncle. It was so nice of him to call me from his hotel and invited me to come and meet him. I was honored to get blessings from him. He told me that “Ajay I am  proud of you and also the whole country is proud of you”.   He has asked me to visit his office in Bangalore and see how development is going on there.  He is such a humble and nice person. I would love to know more about him and meet him again in India.

TI- One question for you Mr. Ravi Puri – How do you guide Ajay to shun all the limelight and kudos he is receiving and concentrate on what is important and vital for him? You know what I mean to say – in this impressionable age it is important to protect the kid from the negative effects of media exposure. How to you ensure this?

Ravi - Hi Ashish. As you know by now that Ajay spends most of his time for school studies. Rest of the time at home myself and my wife Mamta ensure that he learns our culture most important being respecting elders and helping  the younger. I, in fact, make him see good Indian Movies where he learns some positive things of life. His Grandparents are often on video conference with him from India and teach him other important things of life.

Just for example Ajay has been visiting many schools and institutions like home for the aged, handicapped children and encouraging them to see the positive side of life. In fact the gifts that he gets from some business houses, he makes it a point to distribute to those institutions.

Well I have reduced the media exposure quite a lot as it was affecting his studies but yes of course it was also encouraging children world wide and so I did not stop it completely.

Recently Ajay was in Calcutta to train about 5000 school children in basic computer applications. He received a lot of emails from them and their parents. They were happy that the training had actually motivated them which was the sole purpose of this training.  Therefore I think if you are taking the media exposure in a limited and positive manner in fact it has a positive effect.  Over to Ajay.

TI - Ajay, have you also designed website for any company on a commercial basis? I am sure there must be lot of offers.
Ajay
- I do have received commercial offers but my dad did not allow me to take up any. I have not designed any website on commercial basis. I just do it for fun and my learning. I have done a website for our Apartment building in Hyderabad where my grandparents live.  Recently I had made http://www.hindithai.org for Thailand Hindi Parishad under guidance from Narayan Uncle.  I will be very soon making website for Atul Jogani uncle with web address http://www.joganientertainment.com  He has done quite a lot for Indians in Thailand. He also made me meet Sonu Nigam Uncle as I love his songs.  Jogani Uncle will be now doing quite a lot for talent promotion in Thailand for Indians. I would be assisting him in any way I can in this mission.

TI - What has been the most exciting moment of your life?

Ajay - The most exciting moment was when I saw my brother Adarsh as a cute little baby for the first time in hospital where he was born and also when I was face to face with Mr Bill Gates, my mentor .

TI - Which class are you in? How do your teachers treat you? How about friends?

Ajay
- I am in grade 6 at The Regent International School. My teachers are very good and treat not only me but other kids also very well. My Friends are very good and I am still making some more friends as I had recently shifted to this school.

TI - Who is your idol? What do you really want to do in your life? What are your immediate plans? Where do you see yourself 10 years down the line?

Ajay -Well I have many. Mr Bill Gates , Amitabh Bachchan Uncle , Shah Rukh Uncle , Sachin Tendulkar , Narayan Murthy Uncle , …..  the list is quite long . I just want to be a good person in my life and want to create a name for myself. I really do not know where I will be after 10 years but for the time being I want to learn as much as possible and concentrate on my school studies.

TI -  What do you think about India? Would you like to go back to India to settle for life later on when you grow up?

Ajay - I love India. I have heard that life is difficult there when you live there but still I love to be in India. I do see quite a lot of negative things about India in the TV news but I guess all countries have their plus and minus points.  I really cannot say which country I would like to settle down but I will be happy wherever my parents are.

TI -  Which was the last movie you saw? Did you like it? Which movie has been your all time favorite?
Ajay
- I saw Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Krrish recently. It was a very good movie and funny too. I liked it quite a lot. Lagan is my all time favorite. My dad showed me Sholay recently and I loved it too. These days my dad is showing me some of the good old movies which I enjoy with my brother.

TI - Thanks a lot for sparing time for us, Ajay. The blessings of the entire Thai-Indian community are with you. We wish you good luck in all your endeavors and hope that you'll make us proud in days to come.

Ajay - Thank you so much for talking to me. I really enjoyed it.  I would always require blessings from all the people here in Thailand.  I am encouraged to work hard and create a name for our country.  There are so many talented children in India but they are not getting any platform to grow in their field. I hope somebody takes that initiative to develop those children also.   Bye

TI - Thanks a lot to you Mr. Ravi and to your entire family. Good Luck!

Ravi - Thank you so much. It was quite nice to know you all and your efforts to unite Indians in Thailand.  Good Luck to you and do let me know if I or Ajay can in any way assist you in your mission.
