Do what you ought to do ... Print E-mail

Funky Guru'Do what you ought to do and when done take the full responsibility of the result.' Now that's the full title. I think I will have to rethink on title of my topics. They are getting longer and longer.

One more of those cliché statements I am so bored of. 'You must learn to take responsibility'. Sure, tell me where is the nearest school that teaches how to take responsibility.

Let me start by question, does any one really know what it is 'taking responsibility' ?

Most of the time the actions taken by individuals is either driven by opinion based on belief or someone else's suggestions. Actions are not taken consciously or having given proper thought to what would be consequence. This is true in very simplistic way and if you apply simple sense to any action taken, you will see it more clearly.

This is the next step in thinking outside the box.

Sunita, always complained about how her life was so miserable. Most of the time she blamed others for those so called 'miseries' of her life. Always, she had someone else or something else to blame.

Her condition was like that of someone walking backwards. There comes an obstruction in the path. She can't see, since she is walking backwards. She stumbles and falls. The last thing she was seeing when she fell was the things of past, since she was walking backwards. So she blames things of past as reason for her fall. But in reality, it's her own fault. She did see the obstruction. She could not see the obstruction. In a way, she didn't bother to take responsibility of her walking (action).

Explaining this concept can be little difficult as most of us are victim of this. We always like to pass the buck to someone else. Our most typical excuses: “traffic jam, education, politicians, dead batteries, flat tyre, wife's health, kids school, rain etc.” For almost every occasion we have formulated an excuse. Except and unfortunately we don't have any excuse for our own little achievements. We are unable to receive compliments. We are unable to accept that we have achieved something. We ourselves don't acknowledge our talent.

Interesting enough is that we are in a constant state of denial. Be it for our success or failure. We have not learnt to accept, appreciate and criticise ourselves.

The way out of this is a little weird process. Every time when you complete a task, a mission or even small piece of significant work, simply concludes that by saying 'I did it'. Later, when someone comes and appreciate the work, once again say, 'I did it' and even if someone criticizes your work, you will still say, 'I did it'.

Initially there will be some resistance from your mind in accepting the fact, you did something. Gradually the resistance will fade away. You will see that your consciousness is now more aware of actions you take. Your consciousness is also very aware of the outcome of your actions and eventually your consciousness starts guiding you to take the right action at the right time. This is how I have taught others to take responsibility.

As always comments are welcome.
