Royal Central Avenue (RCA) is an entertainment area in Bangkok accessible through both Rama 9 Road and Petchburi Road.
RCA is mostly frequented by local upper class Thais. The cluster of discotheques and clubs is lively and vibrant everynight and on weekends one can find people queuing to enter their favorite clubs.
This is a perfect place to visit in case you want to avoid the typical tourist scene. The clubs look deserted till about 7 or 8 pm. People start coming in at 9 pm and by midnight the place is packed.
RCA is considered to be the hippiest place in Bangkok and there is a variety of music played from Trance, POP and hip hop. Don't expect hard rock or heavy metal.
The clubs are usually crowded and people normally dance around their own tables. Drinks are not too expensive and people prefer to order their own spirit bottles. For a group of 4 having Whiskey would be less than 2,000 baht - pretty decent indeed!
Take a note of the following: 1) Some clubs don't allow men to enter their premises wearing slippers. If you are in slippers, you will have to rent an uncomfortable pair of shoes outside. 2) Most clubs require a photo ID (Thai ID or Driving license would be sufficient)
