Re:i m planning to move bangkok help me please - 2008/10/15 08:35 Hi,

Expenses depend on which area you want to stay in and how much you are willing to spend on facilities. As a general rule you can see the following:

a) Housing/ Rent : a one bedroom appartment (50 Sq meters or more) can range anywhere between THB 15000/- to THB 100,000 per month depending on the area you want to stay in. If you want to stay in town (Sukhumvit, Silom), its more expensive. If you are willing to move slightly outside (on-nut, Pahoyonthin, Mochit), it gets cheaper. You can check out this website for appartments for rent - http://bangkok.craigslist.co.th/search/apa?query=Bangkok&minAsk=10000&maxAsk=50000&bedrooms=

b) Groceries : Vegetables and Indian food is expensive here. One kilo gobi costs anywhere between THB 40/- to THB 150/-. If you buy from the fresh market (Mandi), it will be cheaper, if you buy from supermarkets, it will be more expensive. Indian masala's, spices and dal are available in the Indian areas here (Pahurat, Silom), but its slightly expensive (half KG arhar / toor dal = THB 40), so if you are getting a container, its better to carry some with you. The quality of housing is very good here, much better than India.

c) Transportation: Public transport is cheap and very good. Taxi's are safe and good and cheap. There is also the sky train (with monthly pass) and government busses which are clean and good. Montly expense will depend on how far you stay from your place of work, but should not exceed THB 6000/- to 7000/-

d) Electricity - will depend on usage - but generally between THB 5/- to 7/- per unit.

e) Phone: Calling India is very expensive. THB 20/- per minute. You need to go to the Indian area and buy calling cards called 'Bolo cards'. This is THB 4/- per minute

f) Water: Not very expensive

g) Maids: Maids are expensive. If you take a maid for a full month on a daily basis - it will start from THB 3500/- per month. If you want to call them and pay them per day, it will range from THB 100/- to 200/- per time

h) Schools : International Schools are quite expensive (THB 40,000 per month or more). But if you send your kid to the Thai Indian school here, its very good and not as expensive as the other schools.

Hope this helps
