Re:Money Transfer to India - 2007/06/02 08:37 Indian Overseas Bank (formerly Bharat Overseas Bank) is the best option open an account with them in India (they have branches in all the major cities) also open an account here and transfer will be cheaper faster and easy.

Besides that you have Moneygram and Western Union but they are expensive.

Re:Money Transfer to India - 2007/06/05 02:54 Open a savings account in Bangkok Bank. Apply for an International ATM card.

Send the card to your parents/family members in India.

They can withdraw money from the ATMs all around India. Rate is quite good. Easy/very fast. Try this out.

Re:Money Transfer to India - 2008/02/15 20:41 All of the above suggestions are good. The one I really like the most is opening an account with any bank (read Thai bank) get an ATM card and send it by register post or EMS or courier to your folks in India.

There they can withdraw money. Make sure the ATM card has either VISA ELECTRON or CIRRUS stamped on it.

There is no loss on conversion how so ever but there is a tart little stiff fees on withdrawals. But if you compute all the other ways, the fees seems negligible.

In shot what happens is that trying to save a 50 baht or 100 won't really make much difference. The difference is when you are talking about millions of bahts or dollars.

Hope you get the gist.

Have you tried ICICI. They have a representative office in Thailand. I know they have been in the news for the wrong reasons. Including this post here

Even HSBC has local branches. They don't charge any transfer fees if the transfer is to some hsbc branch in India.

You can also look for options on this comparison page
