The "E-Books" are the books for the new generation Book Enthusiasts or for people who are comfortable reading from computer screens.
People who are more interested in having print versions need to shell out some cartridges for the print outs. Nonetheless, these e-books are here to stay for obvious reasons. Anyone with a computer and internet connection whether he is in Delhi, Dalian or Dallas can read them. A great leveller indeed! As of now, these are normally the books whose publishers agree for free distributuion or whose copyright has expired.
There are few good sites offering downloadable e-books. A good case in point is Indbazaar which offers easy downloadable books on different subjects like science, business, history etc.
Then there is Project Gutenberg , the mother of all e-book providers. It was started by in 1971 by Michael Hart and its collections have increased to 18000 titles. The digitization work is done by volunteers from across the globe. Project Gutenberg is the oldest producer of free ebooks on the Internet.
How can we cosider any topic complete without talking about google, which has become an integral part of our daily lives so much so that "googling" has become a synonym for "searching". The google books http://books.google.com/ offers full view of books whose copyright has expired. For other books, it offers a few page view so that you may decide which book you would like to buy.
Another way is to create a profile in www.orkut.com and join the e-books community. You may be able to get some e-books there.
