February 22, 2008 By News Desk Indian company Goldstone Technologies Ltd will launch Internet protocol television (IPTV) services in Thailand in collaboration with Synap Media and Infotecch Ltd, the company said Thursday. The firm said it was setting up the global IPTV to primarily target non-resident Indians .
The company claims to have already received orders for 3,000 set-top boxes from Thailand and expect to get 75,000 subscribers in their first year of operations.
Nandan Kundetkar, chairman of Goldstone Technologies, said: “The focus for the IPTV services in Thailand would be on tourism and hospitality industry to leverage the growing travel by Indians to the southeast Asian kingdom .”
Goldstone Technologies has its network operating centre in Taiwan and offers live streaming of 20 TV channels, along with movies in Hindi, English and several Indian regional languages.
The pricing and channels/programs for Thailand have not yet been disclosed, nor has any details on where/how to book the set-top-box made available.
IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is a system where a digital television service is delivered by using Internet Protocol over a network infrastructure, which may include delivery by a broadband connection. A general definition of IPTV is television content that, instead of being delivered through traditional broadcast and cable formats, is received by the viewer through the technologies used for computer networks.
