It was an absolute pleasure as the thaindian.com team got an opportunity to meet the original Dream Girl of Bollywood - Hema Malini. Beautiful, Graceful, Elegant, Ageless - words fail to describe her! Join Varin Sachdev for Thaindian.com while he talks to Hema ji.
Check out the Video of interview. Excerpts below:
[VS] Welcome to Bangkok
[HM] Thank you very much!
[VS]You mentioned during the press conference that you really liked Krabi? Tell us something about it.
[HM] Krabi is a very beautiful place. I love that place. We stayed in a resort with one of my very dear friends and enjoyed a lot. When I mentioned this to my children they said even they would like to come. This time my younger daughter Aahana is here with me and she also plans to visit Krabi.
[VS] When we saw Aahana on stage she looked more like your sister...what is Hema's secret for "evergreen youth"?
[HM] Hema has got no secret. I am a dancer - a performer and as such I have to maintain myself. I do yoga, have limited habits and like all others take care of my skin...guess all this keeps me going. Sometimes I do a little workout also but could'nt do today because of the press conference.
[VS] Dancer, Actress, MP and producer - how do you manage these multiple roles - how do you set your priorities right?
[HM] Each thing has got its own timing. When my parliament session starts I try my best to be there most of the time unless I have prior commitments of my dance shows. Every month I have 3-4 dance performances. As I mentioned before also, that's really something which helps me maintain myself.
[VS] You have made a grand comeback. What took you so long? Were you waiting for the right scripts?
[HM] Absolutely, I won't like to play just another mom, but the role should also have something important..some content in it. That's what I was looking for. Otherwise I was very happy with my dancing which was doubly useful for me in terms of spirituality. That was the time Baghban happened, Ravi Chopra came and narrated me the story where I had to do this role opposite to Mr. Bachchan and I said yeah..I must do it.
[VS] We saw great Chemistry between Amitabh Bachchan & Hema Malini. Will we ever see Hema Malini and Dharmendra ji in reel life?
[HM] Well that's a question mark as of now but recently Dharamji acted in Apne. It has been recently released and is a very big hit. I'd love to work with him if he has no problem to work with me.
[VS] As Bollywood is invading Thailand & the world, Hollywood also invades Bollywood. How do you see the evolution of bollywood - how has it changed over the years?
[HM] See, with the passage of time, things have to change. And films what you have seen in my time, the actresses used to be properly dressed - even if you put a sari, it would be pinned and properly covered. At the same time, Sari is very sexy outfit and it had its own beauty. The movies were nice and storylines good. Things have definitely changed now and in ways more than one. If you see technically, so beautiful shots are taken that sometimes I wish we had such things in my time. Girls today are wearing all kinds of dresses which I won't say its completely wrong as the girls have fantastic figures and they look very good.
[VS] Any universal message from Babul which you would like to convey?
[HM] The message is loud and clear - get you daughter-in-law re-married if need be. Its a very sweet thought coming from a father-in-law.
[VS] Thanks a lot for being with us. Wish you a nice stay in Bangkok.
I really missed her very much since 'Haathi Mera Saathi'. Was Hema Malini with Rajesh Khana in the film? Hindi films have all gone from theaters in Bangkok. We need to do something about it! [Somkiat Onwimon]
