Belated Birthday wishes to Akshay Kumar On 9th September 2007, the Khiladi Akshay Kumar turned 40 and phew...how great these years have been for him. When he came to the industry almost fifteen years back he was dismissed as an youngster who could not act well. The trade pundits talked of the demise of his film career very soon. However, he has defied all odds and emerged stronger every time. Now he is "Apna Akshay" who rules Bollywood.

His first film was Saugandh in 1991 which was unnoticed. His first major hit was the 1992 thriller film Khiladi. 1993 saw a drop as many of his films failed to do well. However, 1994 proved to be a good year for him as he followed up his success with Khiladi with the action thriller Main Khiladi Tu Anari and the action hit Mohra which was one of the highest grossing films of the year. After that there was no looking back.

Now that he is a phenomenon, everyone loves him but there are some facts about him which we would like to know. In his biography he mentions about his days in Thailand.

"It was through a friend that I first came to know about martial arts.I was very thin at the time, weighing barely 60 kilos. Watching my friend become tougher day by day, thanks to karate, I began to feel insecure and so I asked him to take me along. Later, I got into Karate to the extent of getting addicted.

Seeing this, my father had promised me, that if I going to get a first clas in my board exams he would send me to Bangkok to study martial arts. I scored 63 percent so he paid for my flight ticket. In Bangkok, I was received at the airport by my uncle and he got me a job at the Metro Guest House. My first salary was 1000 baht (around Rs. 1500). It was more than enough to survive.

Food was no problem, because we worked in a restaurant. In fact, we used to get fed up of seeing food all around us. Even while we were cooking we always grabbed a few bites. I was not exactly a chef but I knew enough cooking to survive. And fortunately even the customers who ate my food survived! "

Here's wishing a very happy birthday to him and all the best for his career!
