There is a 90% chance that The International Indian Film Academy(IIFA) Awards for 2008 will be held in Bangkok, Thailand on first or second week of June.Recently, during the recent Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair on Feburary 28th, thaindian.com had a chat with Mr. Atul Jogani( Director of Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association) from Jogani Entertainment who revealed the strong possibilities of choosing Bangkok as the hosts for the prestigious ceremony. The IIFA awards is organized by Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and they have been scouting various destinations like Turky and Bangkok since middle of last year. Many senior executives including Viraf Sarkari and Andre Timmins, Directors of Wizcraft, and executives like Shefali have visited Bangkok going thru minute details. At the time, Ms. Shefali also had some discussions with thaindian.com
The awards of the International Indian Film Academy (commonly known as the IIFA Awards) is a prestigious award ceremony, honouring Hindi movies ( Bollywood) around the world. In the past, IIFA awards have been hosted at Yorkshire, Dubai, Amsterdam, Singapore, Johannesburg, Genting Highlands, Sun City and London. The event is most likely to be held at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani which is a 12,000-seat arena-style concert hall. It is the primary large-scale entertainment venue for the Bangkok metropolitan area. Past concerts have included shows by Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani, Elton John and Deep Purple as well as such shows as Disney on Ice. The arena was also used for the Miss Universe 2005 pageant. It also hosts muay Thai and the Thailand Open tennis tournament. This is indeed a good news and the Indian community in Bangkok would get a chance to have a glimpse of their favourite stars right here in Bangkok. This would also be one of the biggest Indian functions in Thailand. Thaindian.com will be closely monitoring this and we will do our best to bring updates to you as it breaks.
