October 25, 2007 Press Release An annual study of regional business stakeholders by Edelman shows that Web-based media has overtaken television as a first source of trusted news and information about business and now trails only newspapers in the study. The data suggests that Web-based media and blogs have overtaken mainstream media and become the most trusted source of information for key stakeholders.
"The Web is no longer an alternative to mainstream media, it is the mainstream media," said Alan VanderMolen, Edelman's Asia-Pacific President. "The key point for business is not that the Web is a source of information, it is that Web-based media are a source of dialogue with business influentials. Business needs to view itself as enablers of conversations about products, services and issues instead of viewing itself as communicators of a specific message."
Further underscoring the strength and influence of the Web, respondents in the survey said they would turn to a company's Web site more often than any other source of information when gathering information about that company.
This massive shift in media selection underscores a broader trend in democratization of media and information, as Mr. VanderMolen says "In today's world, consumers of news and information are increasingly skeptical and discerning; not to mention, they want to talk back to the source of information not simply consume it."

Kanpur, Oct 26, 2007 ANI
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajiv Shukla has admitted that cramped game schedules are making players fatigued.
"There is no doubt that the players are fatigued. But the schedule is prepared according to the ICC calendar. It is not just our team, but the other teams too have to follow it, and the England team has also complained of the hectic schedule since they also have to play back to back matches,” Shukla said.
Commenting on the gap between the series, he said, “I agree with Dhoni that there is no gap between the series. Now, they are getting some gap between the series with Australia and Pakistan. But the problem is that there are too many events in the international calendar and it is hard to make adjustments. We are trying to give the players as much rest as possible."
Shukla added that the BCCI had created a talent pool of nearly 40 players to take care of replacements in case key players got burned out. "If we have a pool of 35-40 players, then if a player is out due to fatigue or injuries then his replacement should be available at once. We are trying to have replacements for every player. Four categories A, B, C and D have been formed and around 35 players have been taken into the pool," he said.
India, which hosted Australia in a seven-match one-day series that ended on October 24 have a hectic schedule ahead. Shukla also inspected preparations for the upcoming third one-day international between India and Pakistan.
India will meet Pakistan in a test and one-day series starting on November 5 before leaving for a test tour of Australia in December. (ANI)

October 25, 2007 By Kestur Vasuki (ANI) The Light Combat Aircraft 'TEJAS' program achieved a most significant milestone yet when it successfully test fired the Close Combat Missile R-73 today at the air to air range off Goa coast. The historic event marks the beginning of weaponisation, which is the focus of the current initial operational clearance (IOC) phase of the program. Air to Air missile integration and testing especially on a fly by wire aircraft is a very complex task involving interfaces with aerodynamics, engine air intake, control laws, flight control system, avionics system, electrical and other general system of aircraft.
Today's successful test firing is the culmination of preparatory work under the guidance of Mr. JJ Jadhav, DPD (Weapon Systems) and Mr. Balasubramanyam, AGM (HAL). Accordingly the main objectives of test firing were to validate: · Safe separation of the missile from the parent aircraft.
· Effect of missile plume on engine air-intake
· Functionality of store management system (SMS) including safety interlocks
· Effect of missile plume on composites structures
· Handling quality assessment during missile launch
The historic flight was done on Tejas prototype vehicle PV-1, piloted by the Chief Test Pilot of the National Flight Test Centre ADA, Gp Capt. N. Harish.

London, Oct.24 ANI Scientists in Vorenezh, central Russia, are now studying Hope's 33 babies to find out how being conceived in zero gravity has affected their development.
Head Scientist Dmitry Atyakshin was quoted by SkyNews as saying that the cosmic cockroach babies were beautiful.
Hope was conceived onboard the Foton-M satellite last month. Although the tests have only just begun, researchers are already reporting changes in the insects.
They say that despite their stamina, weightlessness has exerted a serious influence on them, especially on their motor functions. Hope was not alone in space - mice, butterflies, lizards and snails were also onboard the spacecraft.
They were all placed in air-tight capsules equipped with life support systems. They were filmed throughout the 12-day experiment. The results of all of the tests will be published in six months.
The cockroach is one of the toughest insects on the planet. It is capable of living for a month without food and can even survive on the glue from the back of postage stamp. (ANI) |

October 24, 2007 by Pramod M. Jain It gives us immense pleasure to inform that Shri Digamber Jain Samaj, Bangkok has completed the transfer of ownership of a 3 storey townhouse property on 19th July 2007 in the name of “Digambar Jain Foundation” (DJF) at house # 143/3, near K. Building Apartment, Soi Putha Osoth, off Maha Set Road, Suriwong, Bangkok. It is indeed a memorable event and a milestone for the growth of Jainism in Thailand and for all Digambar Jains living here for past several years. The Jin Bimb (statue) and prayer hall are located on the 2nd Floor. Ground floor contains store, shower and WC area. 3rd Floor is an open hall for Swadhyay. The space is adequate for the current size of Digamber Jain community. Even though, Digamber and Shwetamber, both sects are followers of same Tirthankers and Jain philosophy and have jointly observed all major Jain festivals in the past and will continue to do so in future as well, it was felt during past 2-3 years by Digamber Jain community in Thailand to have their own Jin Mandir (Temple) owing to the fact that Digamber Jin Bimb is Vitraagi (without any adoration) and the method of worshipping and Pujan vidhi is also different from other sects. There are over 500 Jain families living in Thailand, mostly in Bangkok, for past several years. Out of them, about 100 are Digamber Jain families and the rest are Shwetamber families. Shwetambers also have their Derasar in the vicinity, built few years ago. Majority of the Jains are in the Gems and Jewelry business. In April 2004, current President of All India Digamber Jain Mahasabha, Shri Nirmal Kumar Ji Sethi, had visited Bangkok and had inspired us to construct a temple for the Digamber Jains. |

October 24, 2007 by Hemant How would I know? I am vegetarian. This silly answer was always presented to me when I asked the question of chicken and egg. Somehow people got the impression that I am looking upon them as source of higher knowledge and hence such 'complex' philosophical question. So they have to answer 'smartly'.
Honestly I find this question, absolutely foolish. In fact it is a great example of thinking within square. When asked this question, you are bound to think within the parameters of chicken or the egg, forgetting that they make your boundaries-Your 'box'. Those who answer as above are still stuck in the same box by refusing the reality that they too are in the box.
Sounds crazy? It is. This is where and how one starts making a note on their current state of mind. I hear so many times quotes from popular, best selling, help your miserable self books, that now it makes me sick. I have become allergic to such quotes and books from where they quote. Don't get me wrong. Some of them are very fine books but most of them are not in the league. Purpose of any self help book or literature, supposedly guiding all the readers to better life, should, at least not make them chicken in the box! Or if you wish the egg in the basket or for vegetarian readers fruits in the fridge. So, what to do? My answer is ... Nothing. The problem starts when you start doing something because you should not do something else. Instead, why not just listen to some music. Or simply close your eyes, breath deeply. If possible take a quick nap. Do anything different then your routine reflex action that your mind is so used to. Remember do anything that your mind is NOT USED to.
