National Stock Exchange (NSE) index, Nifty crossed the 6000 mark to touch an all time high of 6,011 on heavy foreign buying, early on Thursday.

However, profit taking emerged in last hour of the trade and shaved-off 0.58 per cent or 34 points. The 50-share index touched a day low of 5,837 before closing at 5,866.

The Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark 30-share Sensex moved in a range of 19,634-20,204 before closing at 19,724.

The benchmark was high on investor optimism duly backed by the US central bank's interest rate on Wednesday cut of 25 basis points to 4.5 per cent signalling further lower borrowing cost.

The market breadth was strong with over 800 stocks on the advancing side and only 65 stocks on the downside on NSE.

"We saw the BSE Sensex crossing 20,000 but it took time for NSE to cross 6,000. It took almost 24 sessions to cross 5000 and reach 6000," said Ganesh Shanbaugh, a market analyst.

The BSE Sensex touched the 20,000-point mark for the first time on October 29 . It took 10 trading sessions for the index to move from 19,000 to 20,000.

London, Oct.29 (ANI):

GE LogoSales of General Electric, the world’s biggest industrial conglomerate, outside the United States, are likely to expand by 10 to 15 percent annually thanks to the burgeoning economies of India and China.

According to a Financial Times report, GE is experiencing a downturn in the United States economy, but the strength of emerging economies such as China and India, will help the conglomerate to tide over a potential credit squeeze and crisis.

In an interview with the Financial Times, GE chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt said that in spite of the troubles sparked by the credit squeeze, “outside the US, particularly in China and India, economies appear strong”.

There was every prospect of GE’s sales outside the US expanding in the next few years by 10-15 per cent annually, he said.

New Delhi, Oct 29 (ANI):

The biggest competitor faced by both Hollywood and Bollywood in India is piracy, said Dan Glickman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) at a CII meeting here on Monday.

“The film industry needs strong laws to support copyright, strong enforcement of those laws, stiff sentences for people who violate those laws and most important, an understanding by ordinary citizens, the people who love movies, that buying pirated movies hurts the industry and makes it difficult for movie makers to make new films,” Glickman said, adding that in India, the MPA has been actively fighting piracy for last ten years.

Appreciating the effort by Indian counterpart, he said that Hyderabad Film Chambers worked with the Andhra Pradesh Government to create India’s first dedicated court to oversee film piracy cases. Modulated enforcement, technology, delivery of exciting new services and public education are the essential elements of a graduated approach to fight intellectual property theft, he said.
